Glossary
Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU)
The judicial body of the EU and the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom).
Article 19(1) of the Treaty on European Union (TEU) provides for a CJEU, which "shall ensure that in the interpretation and application of the Treaties the law is observed".
To fulfil this objective, the CJEU:
Reviews the legality of the acts of the EU Institutions.
Ensures that member states comply with obligations under the Treaties.
Interprets EU law at the request of the national courts and tribunals.
