Regional Development Agencies (RDAs).

Abolished in 2012, Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) have been replaced with Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs).
The nine former RDAs set up in the English regions were non-departmental public bodies. Their primary role was as a strategic driver of regional economic development in their region. The RDAs' aims were to:
  • Co-ordinate regional economic development and regeneration.
  • Enable the regions to improve their relative competitiveness.
  • Reduce the imbalances that exist within and between regions.
The Public Bodies Act 2011 abolished the eight RDAs outside London. The Localism Act 2011 abolished the London Development Agency and transferred its assets to the Greater London Authority.
