A Practice Note providing an overview of alcohol beverage marketing and advertising regulations in the US. This Note provides an overview of the portion of the Federal Alcohol Administration Act (FAA Act) which authorizes the Department of the Treasury's Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) to regulate advertising and marketing of alcohol beverages including distilled spirits, wine, and malt beverages, such as beer, and discusses Federal Trade Commission (FTC) efforts to limit advertising of alcohol beverages to people under 21 years of age. This Note is primarily focused on federal law but it also provides examples of similar, relevant state laws and industry self-regulation.
