US Department of Housing and Urban Development

The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is a federal government agency designed to promote homeownership, support community development, and increase access to affordable and equitable housing. HUD is administered by the US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and is organized into several major program offices. HUD's Office of Housing is responsible for the Federal Housing Administration, mission regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and administration of Multifamily housing programs. HUD's Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity enforces federal laws against discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, and familial status.
