An update on an announcement that the Committee on Climate Change will be publishing, on 24 September 2010, a report (with advice to the government) on the cap on allowances under the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC).
The Committee on Climate Change (CCC) has announced that it will be publishing, on 24 September 2010, a report setting out its advice to the government on the cap on allowances in Phase 2 of the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC) (see Committee on Climate Change: Events).
The CCC is an independent body established under the Climate Change Act 2008 to advise the government on setting carbon budgets, and to report to Parliament on the progress made in meeting the greenhouse gas emission reduction targets set out in the Climate Change Act 2008.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has indicated to PLC that:
"DECC is not undertaking a formal review of the scheme but is committed to keeping the operation of this scheme under active review with a particular eye on simplifying it and ensuring it properly incentivises those who do most to improve energy efficiency. We will aim to introduce any changes ahead of the capped phase."
However, although DECC is not proposing to carry out a formal review of the scheme, the Minister for Energy and Climate Change has said, in a press release urging organisations to register for the CRC before the deadline on 30 September 2010:
"My message to businesses today is to register now. I understand the original complexity of the scheme may have deterred some organisations and I want to hear suggestions as to how we can make the scheme simpler in the future."
