Automatic enrolment scheme

A pension scheme in which an employer in the UK must automatically enrol an eligible jobholder once it becomes subject to the Pensions Act 2008, unless the jobholder is already an active member of a qualifying scheme on his automatic enrolment date. An automatic enrolment scheme must also be a qualifying scheme. In addition, the scheme must contain no barriers to entry in its rules nor any provisions requiring a new joiner to make any choice or provide any information to remain an active member.
