Search engine

A co-ordinated set of computer programs which includes a spider, a program which contains an index from which web pages can be read, and a program which receives a search request and compares it with the entries in the index and returns the results to the user. Websites such as Google or Yahoo! contain search engines which enable users to search large indexes of website addresses by inserting the appropriate words or terms against which they wish to search.
