A Toolkit containing resources to help financial institutions understand and prepare for an examination by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. A financial institution that is subject to supervision by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) should anticipate an examination by the agency for compliance with federal consumer financial laws. The CFPB uses the examination process to make a comprehensive evaluation of the institution's technical compliance with applicable consumer finance laws and the institution's ability to identify and correct violations and risks to consumers. Where necessary, the CFPB may institute investigatory or enforcement proceedings as a result of its examination findings. This Toolkit provides resources to assist financial institutions with understanding and preparing themselves for the CFPB examination process so that they may reduce the risk of enforcement.
