An article to discuss China's Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL), which was approved on 20 August 2021 and will take effect on 1 November 2021. The article discusses the key elements of the PIPL, including the definition of personal information, scope of application, requirements for personal information processing, cross-border transfers of personal information, rights of individuals and obligations of information processors. It also summarises the material changes in the final version in comparison with the last draft unveiled on 29 April 2021.
