Commodity Exchange Act (CEA)

The federal statute regulating the US market for trading in commodity futures. The CEA gives the CFTC authority to regulate commodity pool operators (CPOs), commodity trading advisers (CTAs) and commodities exchanges. The CEA also now includes non-security-based swap regulations issued under Title VII of the Dodd-Frank Act. These swaps are regulated by the CFTC under Title VII.
