NYSE Euronext completed its acquisition of American Stock Exchange (Amex) on October 1, 2008. The equities division of Amex was renamed NYSE Alternext US LLC and in 2009 was rebranded as NYSE Amex LLC.

In May 2012, NYSE Amex LLC was renamed NYSE MKT LLC, and in 2017 it was again rebranded as NYSE American LLC.
