A corporate, sovereign, or any other form of legal entity (or a basket or index of such entities) specified in a transaction confirmation for a credit derivatives transaction such as a credit default swap (CDS). The obligation of the credit protection seller to make credit protection payments to the credit protection buyer under the CDS is determined based on the occurrence of certain credit events with respect to the reference entity.
