A Practice Note addressing the rules and best practices for participating remotely in Illinois state court proceedings, including return dates, case management and status hearings, motion practice, pretrial and settlement conferences, trials and other evidentiary hearings, and oral arguments in the appellate courts. This note addresses Illinois Supreme Court Rules governing remote hearings generally, and circuit court and appellate court rules that govern remote hearing protocols at the local level. This Note also offers guidance on participating remotely in court proceedings by telephone and video conference, including special considerations for trials and evidentiary hearings.
