Electricity supplier

An entity that sells electricity to an end consumer pursuant to a supply licence or under an exemption under the Electricity Act 1989. In Great Britain, an electricity supplier only has a retail relationship with the end consumer and does not own or operate the electric lines or plant used to deliver the electricity (the distribution network). However, this activity may be carried out by a separately licensed company within the same group. For more information, see Practice note, Electricity industry: overview.
