This Note provides an introduction to the digital Indian rupee, a central bank digital currency (CBDC) to be issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). This Note discusses issues that the digital rupee has been created to address, as well issues it may potentially create, and describes the goals and mechanics of the digital rupee retail and wholesale pilot programs.
