Energy Information Administration

Established under the Department of Energy Organization Act of 1977 (42 U.S.C. § 7135), the Energy Information Administration (EIA) is an agency within the US Department of Energy that collects, analyzes, and disseminates independent and impartial energy information to promote sound policymaking, efficient markets, and public understanding of energy in the US and its interaction with the US economy and environment.
The EIA is the primary federal government authority on energy statistics and analysis and its data, analyses, and forecasts are independent of approval by any other officer or employee of the US government.
