This note considers the European Order for Payment procedure under Regulation 1896/2006/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 December 2006, which aims to simplify, speed up and reduce the costs of cross-border litigation involving uncontested debts within the EU.
This note has been updated in the light of Brexit and the end of the UK-EU transition period at 11.00 pm (UK time) on 31 December 2020.
Since 1 January 2021, the European Order for Payment procedure has not been available in UK courts, or in courts in EU member states in situations involving the UK, except where the European Order for Payment was applied for before the end of the transition period.
