The Copyright Office announced a new fee schedule for covering registration, recordation and related services, special services, Licensing Division services, and Freedom of Information Act requests. The new fees will take effect on May 1, 2014.
The Copyright Office has announced a new fee schedule covering:
  • Registration, recordation and related services.
  • Special services, such as expedited handling.
  • Licensing Division services.
  • Freedom of Information Act requests.
For registrations, the fee under the new rule for standard online applications for registrations increases from $35 to $55. However, the fee for a single registration application filed by a single author for a single work not made for hire remains $35.
For group registrations, some fees have increased while others remain the same:
  • Fee for registration of a claim in a group of contributions to a periodical increases from $65 to $85.
  • Fee for group registration of published photographs or registration of automated databases that primarily consist of photographs increases from $35 to $55.
  • Fee for registration of a claim in a group of serials remains $25.
  • Fee for registration of a claim in a group of daily newspapers and qualified newsletters remains $80.
Renewal fees for pre-1978 works will decrease from $115 to $100.
Fees for recordation of documents remain $105 while fee for recording groups of up to ten additional titles associated with that document increase from $30 to $35.
The new fee schedule also reflects increases for certifications, search reports and records retrieval and other services.
