SEMARNAT's main mandate is to foster the protection, conservation and restoration of ecosystems, natural resources, and environmental goods and services, for their sustainable development. SEMARNAT is the main regulatory agency on environmental matters. It makes and implements environmental policy, regulates industries and natural resources, and enforces environmental laws and regulations through its enforcement arm, PROFEPA.
