Federal Power Act
Enacted in 1920 as the Federal Water Power Act until it was renamed in 1935, the FPA established:
Guidelines for the federal regulation of the sale of electricity in interstate commerce by
utilities
.
The Federal Power Commission, now the
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
(FERC).
The FPA has been amended several times, most notably by the
Energy Policy Act 2005
which expanded the FERC's regulatory authority.
