Geothermal Energy

Energy that is generated from heat extracted from hot water or steam mined from the reservoirs in the earth's crust.
The water or steam extracted can be used to heat water or generate electricity. Once the water is used, it is injected back into the earth. For more information on geothermal energy, see Practice Note, Renewable Energy: Overview (US): Geothermal Energy.
