The Department of Commerce's Internet Policy Task Force announced that it will host a public meeting to further explore the Federal Government's role in facilitating the development of an online copyright licensing environment.
On March 13, 2015, the US Department of Commerce's Internet Policy Task Force issued a notice announcing that it will host a public meeting on April 1, 2015 to further explore the Federal Government's role in facilitating the development of an online market for licensing copyrighted works (80 Fed. Reg. 13325-02 (Mar. 13, 2015)). The meeting will focus specifically on how the Government can assist in facilitating:
  • The development and use of standard identifiers for all types of works of authorship.
  • Interoperability among databases and systems used to identify owners of rights and terms of use.
  • A portal for linking to such databases and to licensing platforms, similar to the UK's Copyright Hub.
This meeting is part of an ongoing initiative of the Task Force, which included the release of its Green Paper on Copyright Policy, Creativity, and Innovation in the Digital Economy in July 2013 and an initial public meeting held in December 2013 where two panels discussed issues related to access to rights information and online licensing transactions, respectively.
Pre-registration for the April 1, 2015 public meeting is available at the Task Force's meeting website.
