On 18 September 2009, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a statement of interest in federal court opposing the proposed settlement between authors and Google Inc. (Google) in the class action lawsuit, Authors Guild Inc., et al. v. Google Inc. A collection of authors had brought the suit in 2005 to challenge the internet company's efforts to make entire library collections widely available on-line.
