On 10 June 2008, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that it has challenged Verizon Communications Corporation´s (Verizon) proposed US$2.7 billion acquisition of Rural Cellular Corporation (RCC) and has required divestitures of assets to remedy the alleged anticompetitive effects in the market for mobile wireless telecommunications services in six geographic areas of the United States.
