Early Retiree Reinsurance Program (ERRP)

A temporary program established under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to reimburse employers for a portion of the cost of providing health coverage to early retirees and their spouses, surviving spouses, and dependents. ERRP funding was limited to $5 billion, and eligible employers were reimbursed on a first-come, first-served basis.
The ERRP effectively ended upon exhaustion of the program's allotted funding. In December 2011, the Department of Health & Human Services announced that reimbursement requests under the ERRP would be denied if they included any claims incurred after December 31, 2011.
For more information on the ERRP, see Article, Early Retire Reinsurance Program.
