In St Shipping and Transport Pte Ltd v Space Shipping Ltd [2016] EWHC 880 (Comm), the English Commercial Court (Popplewell J) held that the claimant needed permission to appeal on a point of law, under section 69 of the Arbitration Act 1996. Although the parties had agreed that questions of law arising out of an arbitral award could be appealed to the High Court, the points relied on by the claimant either did not involve a question of law or, if they did, they would not substantially affect the rights of the parties, as required by section 69(3)(a).
On 17 April 2016, Djibouti became the 119th Member State of the Permanent Court of Arbitration.
