An update on the Scottish and Irish Arbitration Acts.
The Arbitration (Scotland) Act 2010 and the Irish Arbitration Act 2010 came into force on 7 and 8 June 2010, respectively. Both Acts, which are based on the UNCITRAL Model Law, have abolished the distinction between domestic and international arbitration which existed in previous legislation. The Acts contain some notable provisions (for further information, see Legal updates, Scottish Parliament passes Arbitration Bill and Irish Senate passes Arbitration Act 2010).
The Acts apply to arbitrations commenced on or after the date of entry into force.
