Attachment of earnings

A method by which money will be taken from a person’s wages to pay a judgment debt. The judgment debtor’s employer must make payments out of their wages into court and the court then releases payment to the judgment creditor to satisfy the judgment debt. For more information, see CPR 89, the Attachment of earnings Act 1971 and Practice notes, Attachment of earnings and Attachment of earnings orders (to enforce maintenance orders in family law proceedings) .
