The Online Trust Alliance (OTA) has released an updated Internet of Things (IoT) Trust Framework. The framework is designed to help IoT stakeholders develop products, while offering a risk assessment guide.
On January 5, 2017, the Online Trust Alliance released its updated Internet of Things (IoT) Trust Framework for developers, purchasers, and retailers of IoT devices to use as a product development and risk assessment guide. The Framework provides a set of strategic principles designed to help companies provide secure IoT devices throughout their entire lifecycle.
The updated Framework now includes 37 principles, broken into four key categories:
  • Security issues relating to devices, apps, and cloud services.
  • User access and credentials.
  • Privacy, disclosures, and transparency.
  • Notifications and related best practices.
Each of the principles included in these categories provides users with actionable and prescriptive advice to help ensure IoT device and app security.
The OTA also updated the Framework's companion resource, the IoT Trust Framework Resource Guide.
