On 28 February 2007, the European Commission announced that it has decided under Article 6(1)(b) of the EC Merger Regulation to approve the acquisition of sole control of the Italian banks Cassa di Risparmio di Parma e Piacenza S.p.A. (Cariparma) and BancaPopolare FriulAdria S.p.A. (Friuladria), together with 202 bank agencies in Italy currently owned by BancaIntesa S.p.A., by Crédit Agricole S.A. (COMP/M.4511). Cariparma provides banking and insurance services in Italy and Friuladria provides banking and financial services. Crédit Agricole is a French bank that provides multinational banking and financial services. The transaction was examined under the simplified merger procedure.
